| Region Kodaikanal is a town with a population of about 40,000 people, situated at an altitude of 2200 metres above sea level in the Palani Hill range of mountains in South India.
The ‘Upper Hill Villages’ in the Kodaikanal area comprise Mannavanur, Poombarai, Kavunji, Kilavarai, Polur and Poondi; these additional villages have an overall population of around 30,000 people. There is are also another series of remote hamlets – not accessible by 4-wheeled motor vehicle at all and these include Perumpallam, Chinnapallam, Periyur, Chinnur, and many others.
