Supporting survivors of human trafficking

Charity: ODANADI  www.odanadi.org
Project objective:  To run safe houses and rehabilitation programmes for    survivors of human trafficking

Location: Mysore, south India

Project funding to date: £190,000

Project Commenced: January 2012

Odanadi, an Indian grassroots charity based in Mysore, has 20 years experience developing initiatives to combat human trafficking. Not only do they concentrate on helping one child at a time, they lobby the regional and national government on ways to tackle the countrywide problem.

Initially we worked with Odanadi buliding a safe house for trafficked boys as a replacement dwelling for their previous accommodation which had been completely inadequate. Since completing the build we have been committed to supporting the annual running costs, including food, clothing and rehabilitation activities for the boys.

In 2018 we expanded our support to Odanadi's safe house for girls and women rescued from human trafficking. We now help house and rehabilitate up to 100 survivors every year.

Adventure Ashram's goal is two-fold. To cover the £14,000 annual running costs of the boys' house and to contribute towards the total running costs of the safe house for girls and women. To support the work of Odanadi, click on the Donate to this Project button at the top of the page.

Project Update

We are delighted to announce an exciting new development at Odanadi!  In 2020, we will be introducing a mechanics workshop for the boys and girls at Odanadi Seva Trust safehouses. We have dreamt of being able to offer the young people at Odanadi useful and relevant training and employment opportunities, to help empower them to create a stable livelihood for themselves. The boys and girls have expressed wanting a place where they could learn a trade and then go on to make a living from it, and as a result, the workshop idea was born!

Going forward, each year around 30 young people will benefit from specialist training at the workshop. Learning from skilled tutors, they will become the confident and skilled mechanics of the future! The workshop will not only provide these training opportunities for the young people at Odanadi but also generate much-needed income for Odanadi. We have plans to attract local customers to use the workshop for their own car/bike maintenance and servicing, innovative and exciting times are ahead!

“The Workshop is a great hope for our young people. The young people who are on their way to becoming adults will now be able to join society with vital employable skills and confidence. Our sincere and hearty gratitude is always there for all god hearts at Adventure Ashram”
