VOLUNTEERING WITH ADVENTURE ASHRAM

Through our passion for adventuring, we have seen first hand not only the meaningful and positive impact volunteers can have on poor communities but also how volunteering can be a amazing and life changing experience too. Whether you are passionate about education, the rights of children or the  injustice of inequality, volunteering is an effective way to get involved and make small but lasting changes.

The spirit of volunteering is a fundamental part of Adventure Ashram. We believe it makes complete sense to give our time and skills for the benefit of others and at the same time learning and gaining so much from the fascinating communities we seek to support.

A MONTH OR MORE

Volunteering from one month up to 6 months, you will live and work within the heart of our programmes in south India and experience first-hand the vibrancy of day to day life.

Although no 2 days are ever the same, our volunteers will:

  • Help out in our after school tuition centres

  • Provide valuable support to the tuition centre teacher

  • Help the children with their English/computer skills/sports

GIVE 2 WEEKS

Give 2 weeks of your time and experience this unique opportunity to share your skills with an amazing community.  It is very much a 2 way process and all our volunteers describe how they received far more than they gave and talk of volunteering as being life changing.

"I had a wonderful time volunteering with Adventure Ashram under the leadership of Arun Kolhatkar.  I learned a lot about healthcare in India and the Indian culture.  Thank you to all who helped with my journey.  I hope that I made a small contribution to the children in the creches and the vision testing I initiated will continue."  Sue Mason GP

VOLUNTEERING IN THE UK AND E-VOLUNTEERING

We realise that not everyone is at a point in their lives where they can volunteer overseas, but are still passionate about helping those in need.  Whether your skills are in administration/organisation, fundraising or marketing, you will not only lend valuable support to the Adventure Ashram office but volunteers often say they gain as much as they give in terms of enhancing their own professional skills.

E-volunteering offers an opportunity to lend your skills to specific projects 'in the field' using email, Skype and other web-based technologies from your own home! This is a growing area for us and we are delighted to have recruited 2 volunteers to the programme - it is an area of volunteering we are keen to expand further.

'Volunteering with Adventure Ashram gives  me  a great opportunity to use my skills to help improve the lives of others in the projects we support overseas. It also give me a chance to improve my skills and knowledge in a relaxed environment, learning new things each day.'  Ana UK Volunteer

WE ARE LED BY THE NEEDS OF OUR PARTNERS AND THEY HAVE ASKED US FOR THE FOLLOWING SKILLS:

  • Health promoters (non clinical) to provide health education workshops for a wide range of areas from dental health to basic hygiene such as hand washing

  • Doctors with experience of Paediatrics to work in creches supporting one of our medical charity partners

  • First Aid trainers to teach basic first aid skills in the community

  • IT trainers to teach basic IT skills to children in our tuition centres

  • English teachers to teach basic English to children in our tuition centres

  • Expert bakers to teach bakery skills

  • Beauticians to teach beauty therapy

Volunteers play an enormous part in the impact we are able to make alongside our partners overseas and the skills each one brings are invaluable.  We do ask that our volunteers undertake some fundraising for Adventure Ashram before or after their trip and are very happy to provide ideas and support with this.
